The highly anticipated new album by Portishead is finally due to be released. The exact date will be announced on their myspace page shortly.

Portishead's album Dummy is a timeless record that reserved a spot for Portishead in my heart forever. In 1997 they followed up with their next release called Portishead and a special live album came after that, but they've been quiet ever since.

Despite not having released anything as a band for about 9 years now, forefront singer Beth Gibbon's claims they've never been split up or killed the band. Guitarist, Barrow says that the members have just had their heads down for a while but still been writing songs together.

Interestingly enough, I'm eager to hear what 9 years of sorrow will sound like from a band that even in their somewhat cheerful moments can shatter me into a complete state of melancholy.
