Profile

Merck

Merck Records is a record label based out of Miami and run by Gabe Koch. They have been releasing electronic music since January of 2000, and wound down in the beginning of 2007.

Their releases cover a wide range of styles, from cut up vocal hip hop by their most prominent artist Machinedrum, to central IDM by artists like Proem, Mr. Projectile, and Deru, to indie-influenced electronic music like Tiki Obmar or Lateduster. They also release a wide geographical range of artists, from all over Europe and the US, as well as Australia, Russia and Japan. Also Merck is somewhat known for only putting forth minimal artist images, and not promoting the label in the traditional music industry push style.

Merck has produced 51 CD releases and 50 vinyl releases as of February 2007. In September 2005, Merck announced their eventual closedown. Once they have released 50 CDs and 50 vinyls in 2006, they plan to stop releasing any new material. While the exact reasons for this are unknown, it has been postulated that poor sales and the increasing costs of releasing material may have made continuing business unprofitable.
